Patronal Service of Evening Prayer

Please do join us this evening at 6pm in St Laurence for a special service of evening prayer commemorating the Feast Day of St Laurence, Deacon of Rome, martyred on this day, August 10th in the year 258, who is buried in the Basilica of San Lorenzo Fuori le Mura (St Laurence Outside The Walls) in Rome.

There will be a brief service of remembrance to mark VJ Day on Friday the 15th of August. The service will be held at noon to commemorate the end of World War II with the final surrender of Japanese forces in the Pacific region 80 years ago on that date.

We still require good quality items for our prize hampers for the Winslow show on Monday the 25th of August. Please do speak to Jo or Colleen if able to provide something. Please also speak to them if you have any soft toys or bottles for the stall.

The Bishop of Buckingham will be confirming candidates at the deanery confirmation service on Sunday the 16th of November in Waddesdon. If you or any member of your family would like to be confirmed at the service, please do let Steve know, and we will arrange an informal meeting to discuss what confirmation means and why it is so important.

The Holiday Club with refreshments and activities for children and their parents will be in the St Laurence Rooms from 10.00-12.00 hrs on Tuesday the 12th of August, the 19th of August, and the 2nd September.

Our morning service at St Laurence on Sunday the 24th of August will be a joint service of Baptism with Holy Communion. Families with young children are welcome to remain in church for the whole service which will have a slightly shorter Eucharistic element. There will be a brief explanation of what baptism is rather than the usual sermon.

St James’ and St Laurence’ Harvest Festivals will be on Sunday the 7th of September. Donations for the Food Cupboard can be left in both churches from the end of August. St Mary’s Harvest Festival will be on Sunday the 14th of August at 5pm.

Our ministry and buildings cost £2,188 per week to maintain in St Laurence and £437 per week in St James’, and we rely on congregational giving to meet these costs. Please do use the yellow envelopes provided (adding your details if a UK taxpayer) so that we can recoup the tax you have paid on the amount donated, or speak to a churchwarden or our treasurer if you would like to set up a bank transfer.
