The projects we are supporting

We work very closely with many community initiatives.  Our role as a community support means we are involved where we need to be.

Projects We Are Supporting

St Laurence Food Cupboard

During the pandemic , Winslow families suffered greatly. Livelihoods disappeared overnight and many encountered massive financial difficulties. The food cupboard was ramped up to support these familes.

Fix the Roof!

We urgently need to raise in the region of £20,000 to repair the North Aisle Roof, where damage to the lead on the roof has resulted in leaking which is only going to get worse.

Through some sterling work by Charles Gardner we have secured some grant funding, but we need to raise this final £15,000 this year or we will lose the grants. We will shortly be announcing an appeal where we will be asking for interest-free loans, which will be repaid in five years if the donor wishes. More details to follow!

Repair Cafe

The Repair Café meets on the 3rd Saturday of the month, apart from August and December (and possibly April this year as it will be Holy Saturday). It is at the St. Laurence Room between 10am and midday.

We usually have people who can help with electrical appliances, sewing, bike repair, blade and knife sharpening, garden machinery and anything else that people want to bring.

We aren’t experts but simply neighbours helping neighbours to fix their things, learn how they work and stop them going to landfill if they are a bit broken.

In the past we have repaired Dyson vacuum cleaners, upholstery shampoo machines, a Dansett record player, garden shears, ripped sewing, a sewing machine, numerous bicycles, camping chairs. We have sharpened kitchen knives and lawnmower blades.

We have drunk a lot of tea and eaten cake!

The service is free but donations towards our running costs are gratefully received.

Without the support from the St Laurence Food Cupboard, I would not have eaten over Christmas

With the pandemic shutting down my new business and not being eligible for financial support, I was having to sell my possessions to pay for food.  The Winslow Food Cupboard provided vital support for me and me and my family could eat.

Winslow Food Cupboard

St Laurence Food Cupboard

The Food Cupboard was set up four years ago in response to need in the local community. The numbers in need at that time were quite small. However, this has increased dramatically since lockdowns.

We support households in Winslow and the surrounding villages. The community of Winslow has been amazing in its food donations and also financial support.

The organiser is Jo Anderson who has been awarded the British Empire Medal for her work with the Food Cupboard.  Read more here

How do I donate?

Food donations can be left in the plastic box outside 7a Park Road, Winslow, MK18 3DL.

We are all volunteers and deliver direct to our families because this has felt safer than having people come to the Food Cupboard and also young mothers with children were unable to carry the bags, So, in organising the Cupboard, we have a great team who pack the bags and make all the deliveries.

We have been overwhelmed by the generosity of local groups and organisations who have helped us or given financial support, including local councils and organisations here in Winslow. This enables us to buy fresh produce including bread, fruit, veg, milk and cheese. We also have been given and found homes for furniture, electrical goods including laptops and clothes and supported people with job applications.

I am in need; how do I get in touch with the Food Cupboard?

If anyone is facing financial difficulties and needs a food delivery please call 07803 942687.

Financial exclusion is the pre-cursor to financial poverty

Most people living in the UK are financially included, which means that they participate in an up-to-date, mainstream financial world - accessing credit and banking online and having lots of choice between different products and services.
